Exchange Event Convened to Mark 8th Anniversary of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation
April 3, 2024
Guangxi Women's Federation held an exchange event on March 25 under the theme of pooling women's strength for the future to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the establishment of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework in Nanning, capital of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The event was attended by nearly 100 people, including officials in charge of women's affairs, students representatives and business representatives from China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and other Lancang-Mekong countries, as well as international students at China Women's University (CWU).
In her speech at the event, President of Guangxi Women's Federation Hu Jingbo said that the China-ASEAN Women's Forum has been successfully held eight times since 2006 and it has become a comprehensive platform for women's exchanges, economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN member countries.
Guangxi Women's Federation, relying on the China-ASEAN Women's Training Center, has provided various kinds of training courses on poverty reduction and development to women in Mekong countries. The federation has also cooperated with women's federations in Mekong countries on agricultural production, border trade, the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and illicit drug usage, and the crackdown on the trafficking of women and children, thus building a Lancang-Mekong women's cooperation mechanism featuring the sharing of information, resources and experience, and forging a closer bond among women in Lancang-Mekong countries.
Hu said that the activity aims to deepen mutural trust and enhance exchanges among women from Lancang-Mekong countries. Guangxi Women's Federation will strengthen friendly exchanges with women from Mekong countries and push forward the cooperation between China and other relevant countries on entrepreneurship, innovation and people-to-people exchanges with tangible results.
Participants hailed the positive results made by Lancang-Mekong countries in women's cause over the past eight years. They agreed that Lancang-Mekong women's cooperation will enhance the well-being and development of women in the region, deepen and consolidate Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and make new contributions to the building of a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.
During the activity, the CWU conferred to Guangxi Women Cadres' School a plaque that recognizes it as a CWU's training center for international education.
Guangxi Women's Federation signed a memorandum of cooperation with the provincial-level women's federations in Vietnam's Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son and Ha Giang.
